When I’ve eaten a lot, I often feel sleepy. On the weekends, after lunch, I sometimes go back to bed. Some of my smoker friends like to go for a puff immediately after a meal. Some people like to drink tea after eating because they think it will help them digest their food.
Many of the things you do hurt you more than they help you. Here are five things you shouldn’t do right after a full meal:
No sleeping
On some weekends, after lunch, I go straight to bed. Most of the time, I still feel full from the meal when I wake up. The food hasn’t been broken down at all. Relaxing also means taking a nap right after a meal.
No smoking
People say that smoking after eating is the same as smoking ten cigarettes. No matter how true or false this is, smoking is bad for your body, and you shouldn’t do it.
No bathing
Taking a bath after eating slows down digestion. When you take a shower, the blood around your stomach goes to other parts of your body instead of helping you digest.
No fruits
Different foods digest at different speeds. Eat fruits first because they are easy to break down. Fruits should be eaten an hour before a meal or two hours after one. If you eat fruits right after a meal, they won’t be digested well.
No tea
Tea leaves are acidic and will affect the digestion process. If you eat protein with your meal, the acid in the tea will make the protein hard and difficult to digest.
If you drink tea right after a meal, it will also stop your body from absorbing iron. Tea shouldn’t be drunk an hour before and after a meal.
